Media Moves at POLITICO, New York Times Debuts New Podcast, Changes at EnterpriseAI

POLITICO announced several new managing editors, in its ongoing efforts toward newsroom reorganization this year.  Four new appointments include:

  • Blake Hounshell, now in a new role as managing editor for Washington and politics, including coverage of Congress, the White House and the Judiciary.
  • Angela Greiling Keane, now managing editor for the United States and Canada, including a new coverage vertical, The Fifty, devoted to coverage of state capitals, as well as education and cannabis coverage.
  • Peter Canellos, who will oversee all investigative efforts as managing editor for enterprise.
  • Sudeep Reddy, who will oversee coverage of the economy, finance and taxes, health care, technology and cyber, energy and environment, trade and agriculture, and transportation as managing editor for policy.

Kara Swisher's new podcast, Sway, launches today from The New York Times.  Featuring House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the first interview, Sway will air twice weekly with new interviews examining the issue of power in society, who has it, who doesn't, and how it all works, in Swisher's signature incisive style.  Swisher, veteran Silicon Valley journalist and co-founder of Recode and WSJ's All Things Digital, is also a contributing Opinion writer for The New York Times.

Oliver Peckham is the new editor for the Tabor Communications tech industry sites, including EnterpriseAI, Datanami and HPCwire.  He previously served as staff writer, associate editor and editorial consultant.  Additionally, Todd R. Weiss has joined EnterpriseAI as managing editor.  A veteran technology journalist, Weiss previously contributed to TechRepublic, Channel Futures, Channel Partners Online, eWeek and ComputerWorld, among many other publications.

Bloomberg News promoted Tom Metcalf to team leader for finance in London, overseeing reporting on finance and banking in the United Kingdom.  Metcalf joined Bloomberg in 2012, covering wealth, billionaires and white collar crime from London, San Francisco and New York during his tenure.

Entercom named Bill Smee its vice president of news, a new role for the company.  Smee will oversee local news content across platforms in 23 markets, a handful of all news and news/talk stations.  He previously worked for number of brands in video strategy, such as CNN, HuffPost and Mashable, previously served as digital video director for NBC News and as executive producer for Slate.

Steve Ruxton rejoined Nexstar Media Group station WGN-AM in Chicago as an anchor and reporter.  Ruxton, who has two prior stints at WGN under his belt, was previously with Cumulus station WLS-AM, and has worked in Chicago broadcasting for over three decades.
