The New York Times has opened an official bureau in Spain and has named Nicolas Casay Madrid bureau chief. He was most recently an enterprise reporter on the Politics desk and before that spent several years in the Caracas, Venezuela, bureau covering the authoritarian leadership of Nicolás Maduro. Casay joined The Times in 2015 from The Wall Street Journal, where he spent eight years as an international correspondent from Mexico, the West Bank, Central America and the Caribbean.
Todd Kistler has been named night news editor at The Washington Post after serving in that role for the past on year an interim basis. He has been at The Post since 2017 and joined the staff as multiplatform editor. Prior to that, he was a team leader at The Sacramento Bee and other McClatchy papers.
The Los Angeles Times has welcomed Nour Malas as deputy editor for Business. She will lead a team focused on income inequality and help develop strategy for the department. Malas comes from The Wall Street Journal where she spent more than a decade as an international correspondent, a West Coast economics reporter and an editor on the health and science team.
Melkorka Licea is now senior features reporter at Business Insider after spending the past three months as a senior wealth reporter. She joined the outlet in October 2020 from the New York Post, where she spent six years as a news reporter, an enterprise reporter, and a features reporter.
The Columbus Dispatch has tapped Katy Smith as business editor. She will continue being the editor of Columbus CEO magazine and will lead an integrated Business Desk with the goal of leveraging the assets of The Dispatch and CEO teams. Smith is a longtime Columbus, Ohio, journalist and has worked at Suburban News Publications, Business First and COTA.
James Kleimann has been promoted to managing editor at HousingWire Magazine, upped from mortgage editor. He joined HousingWire in August 2020 from Real Deal, where he had served as managing web editor. Before that, Kleinman has worked for NJ and Patch.
Gizmodo has welcomed Isaac Schultz as a staff writer covering science. He was most recently an editorial fellow at Atlas Obscura where he wrote breaking science news stories and longform features with a focus on archelogy and ecology. He has also previously reported for BKLYNER, where he covered Bedford-Stuyvesant, and his work has published in Real Clear Science and Mother Jones.
Ryan Maguire is the new executive producer of the Chicago White Sox Radio Network, operated by WMVP 1000-AM, the ESPN sports/talk station in Chicago. Most recently, Maguire was director of news for Barrett News Media, and before that served as a producer for SpokenLayer, a New York-based digital audio startup. Maguire has also worked for CBS Radio and Entercom as a sports program director.
WLS 890-AM radio in Chicago has signed longtime radio news personality Judy Pielach as a contributor for the new Bruce St. James morning show. She is on-air 5:30 to 9 a.m. weekdays. Pielach stepped down from her afternoon anchor post at WGN 720-AM radio in 2018, and had been at the station since 1986. In 2017 she was inducted in the WGN Radio Walk of Fame.
Loren Korn and Derrion Henderson are the new morning team at WMBF-TV, the NBC station in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They co-anchor the station’s 5-7 a.m. shows every weekday. Henderson joined the station in October 2020 from KTVI-TV in St. Louis; Korn comes from WKMG-TV in Orlando where she was also a reporter.
