Media Moves at USA Today & Washington Post, Nylon Recruits Fashion Editor

The Washington Post has announced several new editorial staff editions on the General Assignment, Politics and Metro desks:

  • Derek Hawkins has returned to the paper to join the General Assignment desk, where covers breaking news and writes enterprise stories. He previously covered Cybersecurity for PowerPost and first joined The Post in 2015 and worked on the Morning Mix team.
  • Justin George has joined The Post a transit reporter. He covers Metro regionally and transit issues nationwide. George comes from the Marshall Project, where he was the D.C.-based criminal justice reporter. Before that, he was at the Baltimore Sun and the Tampa Bay Times.
  • Ian Duncan has joined The Post as national transportation writer. He reports on the U.S. Department of Transportation, the secretary’s office and the politics of transportation policy, including the decision-making that goes into the dissemination of the billions of dollars of agency money. He was most recently a city government reporter for the Baltimore Sun.
  • Isaac Stanley-Becker ​has joined the National Politics staff as part of the 2020 campaign team, pioneering a “digital democracy” beat focused on dominant role of the Internet in driving U.S. politics. Stanley-Becker was most recently a writer on the Morning Mix.
  • Emily Heil has joined the Food Desk as a reporter covering national trends. She spots food angles in politics, pop culture, consumer news and social media, and turns them into stories showing that what we eat says something about who we are. Heil was most recently writing The Post’s “The Reliable Source” column and before that penned the “In the Loop” column. She joined The Post in 2011 from Roll Call.

Maria Cristina Bobila is the new fashion editor at Nylon. She spent the last four years at Fashionista, most recently as senior editor. Before that, Bobila worked for Luxury Brand Partners as an assistant content editor, and prior to that spent several years as a freelance fashion and lifestyle writer with bylines in Vogue, InStyle, Refinery29, i-D, Complex, Nylon, and more.

USA Today has hired Jessica Menton as a New York-based reporter covering personal finance and financial markets. She comes from The Wall Street Journal where she most recently served as markets reporter. Menton joined The Journal in 2015 as news editor and before that worked for the International Business Times as markets and finance reporter.

Agnes Chapski has been promoted to VP/group publisher of InStyle, Shape and Health. She was previously the VP/publisher of InStyle and has been with Meredith since May 2019. Prior to that, Chapski spent almost a decade at Conde Nast and served as the chief revenue officer for Allure magazine.

Wichita Eagle general manager Dale Seiwert has announced that he will leave the company on Nov. 1 after nearly 40 years at the outlet. He joined the staff in 1980 and since then has been in charge of various projects at the newspaper including eight years as CFO in charge of all financial reporting and billing, adverting and audience system conversions, and two years as GM.
