'Twas the Night Before the PR Crisis

December 19, 2017 Lacey Miller

'Twas the night before the PR crisis, when all through the office

Not a creature was stirring, not even the bosses;

The press release loaded in the distribution software,

In hopes that good mentions soon would be there;

The comms pros were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of AVEs danced in their heads;

CMO out of office, and I at my desk,

I was ready to settle for one mention at best.

When in my Spike Alerts there arose such a clatter,

I sprang into my dashboard to see what was the matter.

To my key messages widget I flew like a flash,

Clicked into my bar chart and sorted so fast.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a burgeoning crisis that left me in fear.

With my PR analytics, so accurate and quick,

I knew in a moment I’d have my answer in a click.

More rapid than legacy solutions, strong data, it came,

And I whistled, and shouted, and said ‘I got game!’;

With data in hand, we knew what was true,

We can handle the crisis, goodbye #fakenews!

To the c-suite, I let an email fly,

Ensuring we were going to kiss this crisis goodbye.

When met with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

I had my tools, reports, and contacts on hand,

And activated my influencers to make a stand.

And then in my inbox appeared a great note,

It was a journalist and they wanted a quote!

Forget those press releases, they just get in the way,

Because I had data, I knew just what to say.

I sent out the quote and several resources too,

And waited for the mentions to come rolling through.

They submitted on deadline, to the presses it flew,

And they posted online with a backlink too!

For some, a crisis is tough, for me, no problemo,

(Oh, you don’t use TrendKite, click for a demo).

My CEO exclaimed, and yes he was right,
