The Los Angeles Times has announced top editorial changes on the Sports desk:
- Chris Stone is the new executive sports editor. He comes from Sports Illustrated where he worked for 27 years, including four as editor in chief, before leaving SI last October.
- Mike Hiserman has been promoted to sports editor. He had been serving as deputy sports editor and joined The Times in 1981 after serving as Golden State College’s sports information director and working as a sports writer at the Long Beach Press Telegram before that.
Miriam Cross has joined American Banker as a reporter and covers bank technology and fintech. She was previously an associate editor at Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and had been with the outlet since 2012 when she joined as a researcher. Cross has also previously served as a freelance proofreader and a writer for Shalom Life Media in Toronto, Canada.
The Houston Business Journal has welcomed Sara Samora as general assignment reporter. She comes from New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung in Texas where she spent almost a year covering New Braunfels and Comal County area, as well as the New Braunfels Independent School District as a writer.
Kira Bindrim has been promoted to executive editor of Quartz. She was most recently the managing editor and joined Quartz in May 2016 as the inaugural editor for the Quartz talent lab. She has been the managing editor since 2017. Bindrim has also serves a managing editor of Newsweek, homepage editor at Reuters, and online strategy director at Crain’s New York Business.
Texas Monthly has appointed Lauren Larson as features editor. She was most recently a freelance writer and editor and has contributed to an array of publications including Men’s Health, GQ, Allure, The New Yorker, Medium, and other. She has also worked at GQ as an associate editor and Chicago magazine as editorial assistant.
Jenny Dial Creech is the new managing editor of The Athletic Houston. She comes from a 15-year run at the Houston Chronicle where she served in multiple positions including an NBA beat writer, highs school sports editor and general sports writer.
WQPO-FM radio in Harrisonburg, Virginia, has hired Riley Reed as a morning personality and the newest addition to the Q Crew. He comes from WWYY-FM in Pennsylvania where he served as morning host for five years.
Sunny Leigh has joined KTGX-FM radio in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as Saturday night host. She is a longtime morning host at crosstown country KVOO-FM but left the station in 2019 to join Tulsa’s KTUL-TV, where she served as a contributing reporter for the weekday morning show. Leigh will continue her duties there.
WAWZ-FM radio in New York/New Jersey has appointed Matt Stockman as program director. He most recently served in the same capacity at K-Love, the educational media foundation in Rocklin, California, and before that worked for Crista Media in Seattle as director of programming.
