Crunchbase News, the site focusing on data-driven journalism of private markets, startups, founders and investors, has welcomed a new reporter and reassigned beats for two others:
- Chris Metinko has joined as senior reporter covering startups, innovation and the venture capital world, which includes venture investment and private markets, as well as enterprise technology and cybersecurity. He comes from Mergermarker, where he spent five years as a reporter.
- Reporter Sophia Kunthara now covers VC-backed companies across all stages in the following industries: hospitality, travel and tourism, real estate and property tech, media and entertainment tech, edtech, and transportation and AI. She previously covered all aspects of the late-stage venture scene and has been on staff since 2018. Prior to that, Kunthara was a business reporter at the San Francisco Chronicle.
- Contributing writer Christine Hall now covers venture investment in the fintech, e-commerce, healthtech, biotech, agriculture and foodtech spaces. She joined the site in April 2020 and since then has covered venture-backed companies, entrepreneurs, trend pieces, and funding announcements. Hall has also previously reported for Houston Business Journal, Pulse magazine (Texas Medical Center), and Community Impact Newspaper.
Steven Lerner has joined Law360 as a senior reporter covering the legal industry. He spent the past year as the financial and startups editor at PhocusWire, a news site covering technology in the travel and hospitality industry. Prior to that, Lerner worked for Enterprise Mobility Exchange as an editor and Pleroma Media also as an editor.
New York magazine has hired Nick Summers as features editor. He will edit pieces that run in print and online, focusing on business and politics coverage. Summers comes from The New York Times, where he was the editor of the Sunday business section. Before that, he worked for Bloomberg Businessweek and Newsweek.
Taylor Rock is the new associate editor at The Spruce Eats, The Spruce's sister site covering food, recipes, cooking and baking. She was previously the news editor at The Daily Meal and spent the past three years writing news and feature articles about current events related to food and beverage. Before that, Rock was the editor in chief of DoNorth Magazine, a student-produced tourism magazine based on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus.
The Beacon, the non-profit news site covering investigations into Kansas City, Missouri's, local news, politics and government, has hired Celisa Calcal as a reporter focusing on economics and civic engagement, and is particularly interested in issues related to housing, labor/workers’ rights, the economic impacts of COVID-19, and government accountability. She was previously an intern at KCUR radio.
Shannon Brazier has been promoted to director of content for Townsquare Media's Central Texas radio local media cluster, which includes KUSJ-FM (US105), KLTD-FM (Krock 1017), and KTEM-AM (NewsRadio 14). He replaced Chad Heritage, who exited the stations. Brazier was previously the brand manager for KSSM-FM (103.1 Kiss FM) and KOOC-FM (B106), and has been with Townsquare Media since 2015.
WOIO-TV, CBS-affiliated television station serving Cleveland, Ohio, has brought on Shannon Smith as a weekend anchor and reporter. She was previously a multimedia journalist at WPTM-TV in Omaha, Nebraska, and has also worked for WIVB/WNLO-TV in Buffalo, New York, and WIFR-TV in Rockford, Illinois.
