The New York Times has made two staff moves at two of its bureaus, and has announced a new hire in New York:
- London-based reporter Ceylan Yeginsu has been named travel reporter and will relocate to Los Angeles in the fall. She joined the London bureau in January 2017 and has since been a UK correspondent for The Times. Prior to that, she was the Turkey correspondent for four years.
- Kabul-based senior correspondent Mujib Mashal will relocate to New Delhi to become South Asia correspondent for the paper. He has been with The Times on-and-off since 2010 with freelancer gigs and a stint at Al Jazeera in between.
- John Keefe has joined the newsroom in New York as a multimedia/graphics editor. He comes from Quartz, where he spent three years, most recently as investigations editor. He is also an adjunct instructor at Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
Paulina Villegas Vargas has joined the Washington Post as a reporter covering breaking news and enterprise stories. She previously spent seven years at The New York Times as a reporter/researcher in Mexico City, and prior to that worked for Reporte Indigo as investigative reporter.
The Chicago Sun-Times has promoted Rachel Hinton to chief political reporter, replacing Tina Sfondeles who left in August. Hinton most recently covered Cook County government and joined the paper in 2017 as an intern.
NPR/National Public Radio has welcomed Aisha Harris as the fourth co-host of the "Pop Culture Happy Hour" podcast. She's joining Linda Holmes, Stephen Thompson, and Glen Weldon as the show prepares to go daily starting in October. The podcast will continue to give people a break from the news, Monday through Friday, while offering insightful recommendations about what to watch, read, and listen to. Harris comes from The New York Times, where at first, she was the assistant TV editor on the Culture Desk. In 2019, she moved to the Opinion Desk as culture editor.
Faye Chiu has been named editor for CNN newsletters and works on all newsletters across CNN Digital departments, including entertainment. She was previously a contracted editor for the science and wellness team at CNN Digital. Before that, Chiu served as the managing editor at Skift and has also held editorial roles at both Conde Nast and Time Inc.
