The New York Times has expanded its Breaking News team in London and has shifted Chris Stanford, who has led and anchored the Morning Briefing out of London for the past three years, to editor of the Express Desk; he will lead a desk of reporters covering breaking news. Stanford joined The Times in London in 2013 after 15 years at the Washington Post.

Darren Samuelsohn is the new Washington, D.C., bureau chief for Business Insider. He joined the outlet after spending the past decade at POLITICO, most recently as senior White House reporter. Before that, Samuelsohn was a senior reporter at E&E News and held the post of outdoors/travel/entertainment reporter at The Olympian.

Protocol has continued to expand its team with two hires in Washington, D.C., and New York:

  • Emily Birnbaum will join the staff in April as a reporter out of Washington, D.C. She is currently a staff writer at The Hill covering tech policy and regulation.  Birnbaum joins The Hill in 2018 as a news intern.
  • Hayden Field has joined the staff as a New York-based reporter. She comes from Entrepreneur, where he spent two years as associate editor.  Prior to that, she freelanced for Fortune, Mashable, Refinery29, and other publications.

Crain’s New York Business has hired Brian Pascus as a reporter. He was previously with CBS News where he wrote breaking news, investigative pieces, explainers, and live-event coverage for CBS News digital website. Prior to that, Pascus was an intern at Business Insider.

Andy Pederson has joined CBS’s WCAV-TV in Charlottesville, Virginia, as a news director.  He replaces Val Thompson who left the station at the end of 2019. Pederson comes from KTVE/KARD, in Monroe, Louisiana, where he spent almost three years as news director.

WDRQ-FM country radio in Detroit has re-branded from NASH FM 93.1 to New Country 93.1, and has also introduced the new morning show, “Electric Barnyard with Broadway & Krissy.” With that come two staff announcements:

  • Bill “Broadway” Bert has moved to mornings from afternoons, which he had been doing since joining the station in early March. He previously hosted the morning show “Broadway’s Backyard” on WDSY-FM country in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
  • Krissy T has joined as a morning co-host. She previously hosted nights at WKQI-FM in Detroit and before that served as a morning co-host at Top 40/Rhythmic WHTP-FM in Portland.
