Fernando Gonzalez has been promoted to news director of the Caribbean and Andes regions for The Associated Press. In his role he will help lead news gathering operations from Havana and Caracas. He was previously the AP's deputy news director for Latin America and the Caribbean based in Mexico City since 2016.
The New York Times has promoted Sam Sifton to assistant managing editor. In his new role Sifton will oversee culture and lifestyle coverage, while remaining head of the Food desk and NYT Cooking. He has been with The Times since 2002 when he came on as an editor in dining, and eventually worked his way up to head of the Food desk.
Arthur Allen has joined Kaiser Health News as a reporter covering infectious disease and vaccines. Most recently Allen was an eHealth editor for POLITICO since 2014 where he covered the incorporation of technology in healthcare through mobile apps, tele-medicine and more. Before that he was a contributor for Slate magazine for 14 years.
Quartz has hired Karen Ho as global finance and economics reporter. She was a freelance business and culture reporter for eight years. Ho has contributed to FiveThirtyEight, TIME, GQ, Refinery29 and more. Additionally, she has held posts at The Globe and Mail and Northern News Service as a business reporter and business and labor reporter, respectively.
Vanessa Hauc has been named anchor of Telemundo's weekend newscast "Noticias Telemundo Fin de Semana." She replaces Julio Vaqueiro. Hauc was most recently a senior correspondent for the network known for her recent role as co-moderator of NBC News presidential primary debate.
KREM-TV, the CBS affiliate in Spokane, Washington, has named Jessie Kane as executive news director effective May 26. She will replace Noah Cooper. Kane is currently the news content director and managing editor for KXTX-TV in Sacramento.
