Media Moves at The Associated Press & Houston Chronicle, Verizon Media Launches Cashay

The Associated Press has announced two hires, both part of the expanded race and ethnicity team. 

  • Aaron Morrison has joined the staff as a reporter. He most recently served as a senior reporter for The Appeal where he covered criminal justice reform, civil rights and policing. Prior to that, Morrison spent more than two years at Mic as a senior staff writer covering race, criminal justice, policing and political movements. 

  • Katrease Stafford has joined the AP as a reporter based in Detroit. She will specifically cover the intersection of race and politics, government federal policies, criminal justice and ethnic entertainment. Stafford most recently spent more than five years at the Detroit Free Press as a reporter covering enterprise, city government and investigative content. 

Lucia Tonelli has joined Town & Country as an assistant editor. She comes from serving as a digital editorial assistant for Elle Décor. Previously, Tonelli three years with Off the Cuff Magazine where she served as an editorial writer. 

The Houston Chronicle has announced a beat change for reporter Dylan McGuinness, who will now cover City Hall. McGuinness has most recently worked as a reporter for the San Antonio Express-News where he covered City Hall. He has previously worked for the Associated Press and Boston Globe.  

Verizon Media has launched Cashay, a personal finance website that aims to target millennials and younger audiences. They have announced the following hires: 

  • Stephanie Asymkos has joined Cashay to cover personal finance, travel and retail. She has been with Yahoo Finance as a reporter for more than a year. Prior to that, Asymkos has written for Acorns, Bankrate, Wise Publishing, and Business Insider. 

  • Dhara Singh has joined as a reporter covering retirement and housing. She has previously been with CNET as a master news intern. Singh also has banking experience by serving as an analyst for JPMorgan Chase as well as an insight's analyst for Finder. 

  • Denitsa Tsekova has joined as a reporter covering personal finance with a focus on debt management, student loans and career trends. She most recently covered markets, earnings and business for Bloomberg. 

 

WMVP-AM ESPN has named Mark Zander host of weekend mornings. He most recently served as the program director and brand manager for WXRX-FM in Rockford, Illinois, for three years. Prior to that, Zander served as a weekend host for WDRV-FM in Chicago for more than one year. Additionally, he had served as a program director for WERV-FM/WRXQ-AM for three years. 

Luke Stuckmeyer has joined WBBM-TV, the CBS affiliate in Chicago, as a sports anchor. He makes this move after a more than 15 year run at NBC Sports Chicago. Prior to that, Stuckmeyer served as a sports anchor for KENS-TV in San Antonio, Texas as well as KOLN-TV in Lincoln, Nebraska. 

WIVB-TV, the CBS affiliate in Buffalo, New York, has tapped Brian Chojnacki as a sports anchor. He most recently was a studio host for ESPN Disney where he also did play-by-play duties for various live events airing on Bleacher Report and ESPN platforms. Chojnacki has also served as a sports anchor for multiple outlets including WRDW-TV in Atlanta, Georgia, WBKO-TV in Bowling Green, Kentucky, among others. 

Danny Meyers as joined WDCG-FM in Raleigh, North Carolina as a co-host for their morning show segment “Showgram”. He comes from WMOV-FM in Norfolk, Virginia, where he spent more than two years as a morning show host and program director. Prior to that he had more than 15-year morning show run with WXLK-FM in Roanoke, Virginia.
