The Modesto Bee has welcomed Kristin Lam as an accountability reporter covering cities in Stanislaus County including Ceres, Turlock and Patterson. She previously worked for USA TODAY as a breaking news reporter and reported from the Los Angeles bureau since joining the staff as a reporting fellow in the fall of 2018. Prior to that, Lam was a news intern at Mercury News.
Ron Nixon has been promoted to global investigations editor at the Associated Press. He oversees the investigative teams in Washington, the U.S. and overseas. He joined the AP a year ago from The New York Times Washington bureau, where he was homeland security correspondent. Before that Nixon was a data and investigative reporter at the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and the Roanoke Times, among other places.
The New York Times has announced a couple of staff changes on its Culture desk:
- Scott Heller has moved from his role as theater editor to become deputy arts & leisure editor. He joined Culture in 2010 from The Boston Globe, where he had been arts editor since 2001.
- A.O. Scott has assumed the title of critic at large. He will continue as a co-chief film critic; however his film reviews would be fewer for the time being. Scott has been a film critic at The Times for 20 years.
InsideClimate News, the non-profit, non-partisan news organization focused on breaking news and investigations on climate change, has announced two top editorial updates:
- Vernon Loeb is now executive editor, upped from senior editor. He has been with the outlet since 2019, and before that worked for The Atlantic as politics editor. Loeb has also served as the managing editor for the Houston Chronicle for four years.
- Erica Goode has joined the staff as managing editor. She comes from the San Jose Mercury News where she spent the past year as senior story editor. Before that, Goode worked for The New York Times for 18 years and has covered climate change, behavioral sciences, criminal justice, and the Iraq war.
Claudia Amezcua has joined KPTV-TV, the Fox affiliate in Portland, Oregon, as multimedia producer. She was most recently a digital producer for KGW-TV in Portland, and before that worked at KTVL-TV in Medford, Oregon, and KFXL-TV in Lincoln, Nebraska.
WHDH-TV independent station in Boston has hired Emily Pritchard as an anchor/reporter. She spent the past three years at KMOV-TV in St. Louis, Missouri, as a weekend anchor, and has previously also reported for KXTV-TV in Sacramento, California, and WBND-TV in South Bend, Indiana.
