Declan Walsh, The New York Times's bureau chief in Cairo, will take on this role in the summer as chief Africa correspondent. In his new position, Walsh will be based in Nairobi, Dakar and Johannesburg and will report on a variety of stories, including climate change, the role of technology in how we live and work, income inequality, migration and, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Walsh started his career in foreign correspondence in 1999 as a freelancer based in Nairobi, and stayed for five years, eventually reporting from 24 countries across the continent.
Block Club Chicago has promoted Kelly Bauer to breaking news editor. She has been with the community news site since 2018 and was one of the founding reporters of the community news site. Prior to that, she was a reporter/producer for the now-defunct DNAInfo website.
Bloomberg News has welcomed back Brett Pulley, this time as Atlanta bureau chief. He covers the global beverage icon, Coca-Cola, and a broad array of themes. Pulley has an impressive career and has worked as a senior editor at Forbes magazine and as a correspondent for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. He is also the author of “The Billion Dollar BET,” an in-depth look at Black Entertainment Television. During Pulley's first stint at Bloomberg he served as a media and entertainment writer.
Amanda Drane has joined The Houston Chronicle as a reporter covering new business, effective May 4. She comes from The Berkshire Eagle in Massachusetts, where she was a reporter for three years. Drane has also reported for the Daily Hampshire Gazette and the Valley Advocate, both in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Garett Michaels has re-added the title of program director for San Diego's KFMB-FM radio, in addition to his PD duties for XTRA-FM. He has been the PD at XTRA-FM since 2018 and has previously worked in the same capacity for KFMB-FM, KNND-FM and KBZT-FM.
WHDH-TV station in Boston has reshuffled the anchors on the morning broadcast:
- Alaina Pinto is now an anchor and reporter for the weekend morning newscasts. She was previously the traffic reporter for the station and has been on staff since 2016.
- Weekend morning anchor Julianna Mazza is now broadcasting weekdays. She has previously reported for WDSU-TV in New Orleans and WWLP-TV in Springfield, Massachusetts.
