Media Moves at The New York Times & The Wall Street Journal, CNN Announces Several Staff Moves

Jan Ransom has joined The New York Times's Metro investigative team, where she will continue to focus on criminal justice. She was most recently a beat reporter on the Manhattan courts and district attorney, as well as on the state and city correction systems. Ransom joined The Times in 2017 after two years as Metro reporter at the Boston Globe.

The Wall Street Journal has named Chastity Pratt Dawsey education bureau chief. She joins the Journal after a year spent studying education funding as a fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard. She was part of a nonprofit news leadership team that designed a multiplatform newsroom called Bridge Detroit and was urban affairs reporter at Bridge Magazine.

Nicki Jhabvala has joined the Washington Post's Sports desk  to cover the Washington Football Team.She comes from The Athletic, where she has covered the Denver Broncos for the past two seasons. Before that, she spent three years as the Broncos beat writer for the Denver Post.

CNN has revamped and expanded its Race Journalism team and has also announced the addition of a veteran broadcaster:

  • Delano Massey has been named supervising producer of the Justice and Race Teams at CNN in Washington. He runs CNN’s Washington-based team of reporters, producers and writers who cover race, the Justice Department, legal and criminal issues, the Supreme Court, Department of Homeland security and immigration. Massey joined the network in January 2020.
  • Pervaiz Shallwani is now the team lead at CNN in New York overseeing the Law Enforcement beat team that focuses more closely on policing in America. He was most recently a senior editor at the network and joined the staff in 2019 from The Wall Street Journal.
  • Legendary sports broadcaster Bob Costas has joined CNN as a contributor/commentator. Costas of course needs no introduction. He has been the face of NBC Sports for decades and is the only person ever to have won Emmy’s in news, sports and entertainment. 

Eric Cabrera "DJ Erockalypze" has been promoted to program director at KUUU-FM in Salt Lake City, Utah, upped from assistant PD. He has been with the station since 2005. This is his second stint programming the station, as he was named PD back in 2014.

iHeartMedia's WNCB-FM in North Carolina has promoted Carson Blackley to program director. She was most recently a music director and on-air host and has been with the staff since 2017.
