Media Moves at The New York Times & Woman’s Day, The Cook Political Report Adds an Editor

The New York Times has announced staff additions to their bureaus in Mexico, Hong Kong and Johannesburg. 

  • Carlos Tejada has been named the newest deputy Asia editor for The Times. He has been with the paper since 2016 joining as an Asia business editor. Prior to that, Tejada spent more than 20 years at The Wall Street Journal serving in roles such as reporter, news editor, Hong Kong deputy bureau chief and lastly as a China news editor until 2016. 

  • Monica Mark has been named The Times’s next Johannesburg bureau chief. She comes from Buzzfeed where she has been the West African correspondent for the past three years. Prior to that, Mark has covered African news for outlets such as Bloomberg News, The Guardian and Dow Jones. She will begin her role in April 2020. 

  • Natalie Kitroeff has been promoted to Mexico-based correspondent. She has been with the outlet since 2017 as a reporter covering the economy and heavy industry. No stranger to The Times, Kitroeff also served as an editorial assistant from 2012 to 2014 before heading to Bloomberg Businessweek where she covered business education for more than one year. She also has worked for the Los Angeles Times as a reporter covering the California economy. 

Woman’s Day has named Meaghan Murphy as their newest content director where she will have oversight of editorial content as well as platform strategy. Murphy has most recently been serving as an executive editor for Good Housekeeping for more than six years. Prior to that, she spent almost six years with Self magazine as features director. Murphy has also held editorial roles at Cosmopolitan and Lifetime.  

Terri Cowart Frazier has been tapped by Vicksburg Living to serve as an editor. She has been with the Vicksburg Post, sister outlet of Vicksburg Living, where she has been serving as a reporter. Cowart Frazier will continue her reporting for the newspaper as well as run editorial for the magazine. 

The Cook Political Report has promoted Jessica Taylor from a contributing role to a full-time editor role, where she will cover the Senate and governors. She makes the move from NPR where she served as a political reporter for more than four years. Taylor has also worked for The Hill as a campaign editor, as a digital reporter for NBC News, and as a senior reporter for the Rothenberg Political Report among others.  

Emmetsburg Democrat & Reporter has named Joseph Schany as their newest editor. He began working for the outlet in the summer of 2019, covering Palo Alto community affairs such as the County Fair and local sports. 

Sandy Pudar has been promoted to news director for WGN America’s newest three-hour national newscast “News Nation” which is slated to debut this summer. Pudar has been with WGN America since 1999, initially serving as a news writer. She has also held roles as producer and executive producer, most recently serving as an assistant news director for more than five years.  

WXIA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Atlanta, Georgia, has hired Maura Sirianni as a news reporter. She comes from WKRN-TV, the ABC affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee, where she spent more than two years as a news reporter and multimedia journalist. Maura has also held similar roles for WICU-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania, and WDRB-TV in Louisville, Kentucky.  

Andrew Keesee has joined WTVT-TV, the Fox affiliate in Tampa, Florida, as a sports anchor and reporter. He has previously served as a sports reporter and weekend anchor for KWES-TV in Midland, Texas, as well as WINK-TV in Ft. Meyers, Florida, where he served as a sports director.
