Bon Appétit has named publishing executive Dawn Davis editor in chief. Davis is the first Black woman to hold this position at the magazine and only the third Black editor in chief of a Condé Nast print publication. She begins November 2 and in addition to the Bon Appétit brand, will oversee the company’s food outlets Epicurious, Healthyish and Basically across all media, including print, digital, social media and video. Davis most recently served as vice president and publisher of 37 Ink, the Simon & Shuster imprint she founded, which focuses on publishing diverse stories.
Gaby Galvin is the new health reporter at Morning Consult and also writes the morning health briefing. She comes from U.S. News and World Report where she spent four years working on breaking news stories and reporting features on health, STEM and education.
The Washington Post has announced two new reporters on the General Assignment desk and a new editor on the Emerging News Products team:
- Paulina Firozi has joined the General Assignment news desk, where she covers breaking news and writes enterprise. She was most recently a researcher at The Post for three years and worked on the Health 202 and Energy 202 newsletters, covering the day's developments in both sectors. Before coming to The Post, she was a social media curator and reporter for The Hill.
- Darren Sands has also joined the General Assignment news desk to write breaking news and enterprise stories. He comes from BuzzFeed News where he spent six years, most recently as a senior political reporter. Prior to BuzzFeed, Sands was a sports business editor for Black Enterprise and an investigative reporter for City Limits magazine.
- Mina Haq has joined the Emerging News Products’ curation and platforms team as a multiplatform editor focusing on The Post’s Select app and off-platform story distribution. She comes from the paper's multiplatform editing desk, where she worked part-time for the past two years.
Veteran journalist Matt Milner has been named editor of the Leader-Telegram. He replaces Gary Johnson, who left the Leader-Telegram in late June after 34 years with the newspaper. Milner was most recent the managing editor of Ottumwa Courier in Iowa, a position he has held since 2016.
Chicago's ESPN Radio WMVP-AM has brought on two longtime Chicago sports/talk personalities to co-host a new local morning show. David Kaplan and Jonathan Hood can be heard together from 7 to 10 a.m. as part of a new Monday-through-Friday lineup. Kaplan currently hosts “Kap & Company” from 9 a.m. to noon, and Hood hosts “The Baseball Show” followed by “Under the Hood” from 6 to 9 p.m.
