Media Moves at USA Today & McClatchy, Nashville Public Radio Hires a Metro Reporter

Beginning May 18, 2020, the Media Moves posts will reduce editions to twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a temporary change in our schedule.

 

Karen Weintraub has joined USA Today as a reporter covering patient safety; she is based in Boston. Weintraub spent the past decade as a freelance journalist and has written regularly for The New York Times, USA Today, Scientific American, Technology Review and STAT. She is also an adjunct professor of journalism at Harvard Extension School and Boston University.

McClatchy has announced the promotion of Stephanie Pedersen to president and editor of The News Tribune and Washington State regional editor of McClatchy's four newsrooms comprising The News Tribune, The OlympianThe Bellingham Herald and the Tri-City Herald in Kennewick, Washington. Pedersen will also serve as president of The Olympian and begin in her new role at the end of June when she relocates to Tacoma. Pedersen is currently executive editor and general manager of The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she has led the newsroom for four years. 

Berkeleyside, the blog covering news and events in Berkeley, California, has hired two new reporters and switched the beats for another:

  • Azucena Rasilla has joined the staff as arts and community reporter, effective June 1. She was previously an associate editor for East Bay Express.
  • Supriya Yelimeli has joined as general assignment reporter. She was previously a breaking news reporter for Bay City News Inc. and worked freelance for Mission Local Inc. 
  • Natalie Orenstein will become the housing & homelessness reporter for Berkeleyside on June 4. She previously spent three years as a general reporter for the site.

Ambriehl Crutchfield has joined WPLN-AM Nashville Public Radio as a metro reporter. She comes from Cincinnati Public Radio WVXU-FM, where she served as general assignment reporter and fill-in host for a year. Prior to that, she was a freelance podcast producer.

Cumulus Media has promoted Troy Hanson to vice president/corporate programming rock formats for the company. He replaces P.J.Kling, who has been program director since 2012.  Hanson will continue in his roles as VP/Operations for Cumulus Chicago and Program Director of WKQX-FM. He was previously vice president operations for Cumulus Chicago, program director of WKQX-FM and vice president programming rock formats.
