Variety has hired Adam B. Vary as senior entertainment writer to cover the business of genre storytelling and fandom across movies, television and streaming platforms. He starts Dec. 2. Vary has spent the past seven years at BuzzFeed as senior film reporter. Prior to that, he worked for Entertainment Weekly as a writer for seven years.
Bianca Montes has joined D CEO as senior editor and oversees commercial real estate in Dallas Forth Worth. Her focus is also on breaking news, online coverage and edits the weekly commercial real estate e-newsletter. Montes was most recently the managing editor for People Newspapers managing the Park Cities People and Preston Hollow People hyper-local publications. Before that, she served as City Hall reporter at the Amarillo Globe-News.
The Houston Chronicle has added two managing editor and an editorial writer:
- Maria Douglas Reeve has joined as managing editor for content at the Houston Chronicle. She comes from the Star Tribune where she most recently served as assistant managing editor for news. Prior to that, she served as the deputy metro editor at the paper.
- Mark Lorando is the new managing editor for audience at the Houston Chronicle and Chron.com. He is responsible for the newsroom’s digital and reader strategy. Lorando is the former editor in chief and vice president of content for NOLA.com and The Times-Picayune and had spent a total of 28 years at the paper in various positions.
- Tim Morris will join the paper as an editorial writer and columnist. He is also a former staffer of NOLA.com and The Times-Picayune and had spent almost 25 years at the paper, most recently as opinions columnist.
Drew Wilder has been hired full-time as a reporter at NBC News on Washington, D.C., and covers Northern Virginia. He has been freelancing for the network since June 2018 and before that served as a news anchor at WWBT-TV, the NBC affiliate in Richmond, Virginia. Before that, Wilder was a news anchor at Nexstar Broadcast Group and WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois.
Capital Public Radio, the public radio service of California State University, has promoted Nick Miller to managing editor, upped from senior editor of news and features. He has previously worked in print journalism and served as editor in chief of the East Bay Express in Oakland, California, and spent 12 years as an editor at the Sacramento News & Review.
Daniela Pardo has joined News Spectrum 1 – SoCal as multimedia journalist. She comes from KXTV-TV, the ABC/Tegna station in Sacramento, California, where she spent two years as a news reporter. Prior to that, Pardo has reported for KTSM-TV in El Pas Texas, KKCO-TV in Grand Junction, Colorado, and KABC in Glendale, California.
KTLA-TV, the CW station in Los Angeles, has shifted Kareen Wynter to a general assignment reporter. She has been with the station since 2013 and has covered a variety of beats. Prior to that, Wynter worked for CNN as an entertainment correspondent and made regular contributions to HLN’s “Nancy Grace,” “Dr. Drew,” and “Showbiz Tonight” broadcasts.
