Jennifer Barrios has been promoted to assignment editor on the Metro desk at the Washington Post. She works with reporters on the government and politics beats. Barrios was previously a reporter who had covered Montgomery County politics. She joined The Post in January 2018 from Newsday in Long Island, where she was a local news editor.
The New York Times has welcomed Kellen Browning as a reporter covering tech news in the Bay area. He was most recently a Metro intern at the Boston Globe, and has also previously interned at McClatchy and the Sacramento Bee.
Syra Ortiz-Blanes is the new reporter for El Nuevo Herald and The Miami Herald, covering national politics and the 2020 campaign through a Hispanic lens, and COVID-19 in Puerto Rico as part of the Report for America Corps. She previously spent three years as a freelancer with bylines appearing in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Prior to that, Ortiz-Blanes worked for the Philadelphia Citizen as a writer.
National Catholic Reporter has hired Christopher White as its new national correspondent, succeeding Heidi Schlumpf, who became the executive editor of the publication in March. He comes from Crux, where he served as national correspondent and covered the intersection of the U.S. and global church, politics and culture.
Megan String has joined The Wichita Eagle as labor reporter and covers issues facing the working class, labor and employment. She is also a corps member for Report for America. String was most recently a business reporter for Gannett/USA TOday Newtork and covered business news locally for the Wausau Daily Herald and across Wisconsin.
Ji Suk Yi will join WGN America's "News Nation" on July 13. She will be the face and voice of breaking news cut-ins in the morning for NewsNationNow.com and its app. Suk Yi is currently wrapping up her duties as evening host on WGN News Radio, a position she has held since July 2019. Her last broadcast on the radio will be July 10. Prior to WGN Radio, Suk Yi worked for WLS-TV's "Windy City Live" show for seven years.
WBUZ-FM radio in Nashville, Tennessee, has welcomed Chris "Crate" Atticus as program director, midday host and brand manager. He was most recently the assistant PD and imaging director for iHeartMedia/Indianapolis, and afternoon host at WOLT-FM. Before that, he spent seven years at Entercom/Memphis and WMFS-FM.
